The property was exploited in the past by the Certain-Teed Corp. and was only recently taken over by the Bestwall Gypsum Co. In October 1945 it was decided to abandon the underground mine and change to surface mining methods. Stripping was started immediately, and early in 1946 the first crude gypsum was quarried.
